Rock Creeeeeeek...

Steve on the send...Campsite Arete

After chasing shade, early starts and evening headtorch sessions we decided to check out Rock Creek.  A small venue in comparison to the Buttermilks or the Happy and Sads, BUT its at 8,000 feet, the rock is immaculate and all the problems are two and three star rated, more of which being three stars!  We'd taken a drive up a few days before whilst having a rest day and were blown away.  It's a beautiful creek at the base of granite cliffs with huge pine tree's and a fast flowing waters and like I said immaculate granite blocks, but ultimately it has shade and much cooler temps providing a welcome and much needed respite.

We were not alone this time as yesterday we met an Austrian fella.. goes by the name of George, who coinsidently is in the country for the same amount of time as we are and wants to go to the same venues as us....sweet!  So we will now be travelling, climbing,  camping, procrastinating, chatting balls with and pursueing general monging with George until the end of the Month and San Fransisco..so hola George.

The rock and climbing really lives up to the guidebook ratings and the setting is second to none.   If your climbing in the area it's a must, it's kinder on the skin, your thermoregulation (It was snowing when we arrived) and best of all it's quiet.  Steve pretty much ticked the whole venue and it was great to watch him on form.. as for George and I.. we had our fair share of fun and sendage so smiles all round!  Another pretty cool thing about rock creek is the resident male black bear.  Unfortunately/fortunatley we never saw said bear, however he definately saw us, there's certainly a sense of him being around, watching you and trying to work out what your doing.  It's almost amusing to think of him wondering why we were grunting, laughing and groping our way up these boulders, which to him are just part of his abode.  Either way there are plenty of fresh tracks around, I guess he must be pretty friendly to leave us alone, so don't let that put you off when you go.  Just don't take food with you, keep it locked in the car or put it in the bear boxes, which are conveniently located next to the Campsite boulder.

Eyeing that baby up

Yeeehah!
